Programs
The Center for Real Estate Studies conducts and supports many activities outside of normal coursework that are beneficial to students interested in real estate. Examples include:
This program provides students with the opportunity to build a relationship with a mentor involved in the area of real estate that the student would like to further explore. Students and mentors are matched up during the fall semester and are given the opportunity to meet face-to-face at the annual Mentor Kick-Off Dinner. Mentorships last for one academic year. If you are interested in being considered as a mentor for the program, please contact Ellen Stauffer.
The Center hosts an annual Real Estate Job & Internship Roundtable event on the Bloomington campus every spring. Students rank their top choices and sit with up to four companies during the event. Companies in attendance in the past have included Simon Property Group, HDG Mansur, Cassidy Turley, Trinitas Ventures, Equity Office, Buckingham Companies, and Sandor Development.
The Center supports students in attending several case competitions every year in addition to putting on the Stanley E. Hunt Real Estate Development Case Series. Competitions include the Cornell International Case Competition hosted by Cornell University in New York, The Eisenberg Challenge hosted by the Eisenberg Foundation in Chicago, and the NAIOP University Challenge hosted by the Indiana NAIOP (National Association for Industrial and Office Parks) chapter.
In addition, the Center puts on several events featuring guest speakers or panels focusing on relevant topics in real estate including an annual Alumni & Friends Dinner and a fall and spring luncheon for Advisory Board members and special guests.
