Dong Chen was initially drawn to Kelley’s strong faculty and research reputation—and it lived up to his expectations. “The Business Economics and Public Policy department has a clear focus on the field of microeconomics, and the relatively small size allows more frequent interaction between the students and the faculty members. In addition, the industrial organization course I took directly addressed issues related to firm strategies and showed that firms’ behaviors could have great social welfare implications—exactly the issues I’m interested in,” he says.

Areas of Study

Business Economics & Public Policy

In Business Economics & Public Policy (BEPP), we train doctoral students in the application of micro- and macroeconomic analysis to economic and public policy issues. Our faculty members regularly publish the leading journals in economics.

Their expertise includes:

managerial economics
forecasting and applied econometrics
macroeconomic theory and policy
domestic and international monetary economics

At BEPP, our primary objective is to give students a rigorous grounding in the economic theory of industrial economics and business strategy, and our students leave the program as economists well-trained in these areas.

Economists with the level and type of training we provide are in high demand. In addition to successful academic careers at top universities, our students acquire the necessary training to pursue jobs at government regulatory agencies, banking institutions, and prestigious consulting firms.
