Kelley School MBAs form IU?s largest team for 8th Annual ?Hoosiers Outrun Cancer? race
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Kelley School of Business students, faculty and friends participated in the Eighth Annual Hoosiers Outrun Cancer 5k Run/Walk on Saturday, September 29, at the Indiana University Memorial Stadium. The 125 member "Kelley Runs for Walt" Team, the largest Indiana University team for the second year in a row, was organized to celebrate the life of Walt Blacconiere, former Kelley School of Business professor who passed away earlier this year.
Led by Jason Clancy, 2007 "Kelly Runs for Walt" team captain and President of the Graduate Entrepreneurship Club, the "I Run for Walt" t-shirt fundraiser continued this year, with proceeds of $1,000 benefitting the Blacconiere College Fund. In addition to the race, team members gathered the evening prior to the event for a pre-event pasta party hosted by Clancy.
"The Kelley community came together once again to support one of its own," said Clancy. "More than half of those who supported the cause were first-year students who did not even know Walt, which speaks to the legacy he left and the uniqueness of the Kelley family." Moving forward, the Kelley School of Business Graduate Entrepreneurship Club will continue to sponsor the Annual Hoosiers Outrun Cancer event to keep the tradition of Kelley support going for years to come.
Since 2000, the Hoosiers Outrun Cancer event has attracted thousands of participants to the IU Bloomington campus each fall and raised close to $1 million for the Bloomington Hospital Olcott Center for Cancer Education. In addition to the 5k Run, the race has expanded to a 5k Walk, 1-mile Kids Run and 1-mile Family Fun Walk. The Hoosiers Outrun Cancer event is the primary annual fundraiser for the community run Olcott Center.
