Career Network Leader

Host Career Network Events in Your Geographic Area (3-4 Leaders/Network)
CONNECTION: YOU ⇔ KELLEY ALUMNI

The benefits of this role include:
  • Promoting career advancement in your network
  • Developing a strategy to plan and execute professional development opportunities based around career advancement
  • Develop a strong local Kelley network in your geographic area
  • Guide the Career Networks Council for future strategy and activity
  • Personal and professional growth from connecting Kelley’s in your area

This role involves:

  • Setting calendar topics for four quarterly meetings throughout the fiscal year
  • Identifying and confirming event location – must be a business environment and preferably at no-cost (accounting firm, law office, consulting firm conference rooms or large meeting halls have been successful in the past)
  • Contacting a caterer to bring the appropriate amount of snacks and refreshments for the event and submitting original receipts to Career Networks Staff Chair for reimbursement
  • Welcoming attendees to events and helping with registration table
  • Collecting feedback and providing it to the Network Council Member to direct future council strategy
  • Following up with attendees and no-shows for feedback
  • There will be one Network Council Member for each network that will be responsible for attending the monthly council call. When that person is not available they will need to designate another Network Leader to give an update for that particular monthly council call
  • All Alumni Leaders are expected to participate in the Kelley School of Business annual campaign at any level – participation is critical and demonstrates leadership in this important initiative

  • Meeting with other Network Leaders to review feedback and set calendar for the year
  • Discussing upcoming events with other alumni in your area
  • Securing space for each event
  • Introducing speakers and panelists at the event
  • Connecting with alumni on a one-on-one basis when contacted
  • Using personal and Kelley School of Business social media channels to promote events
  • Attending quarterly events and assisting with the success of events

Time commitment expected:

2-4 hours per month

What is NOT expected:
  • Interviewing, hiring of current students or alumni
  • Planning social events, such as game watches or happy hours, at bars or restaurants (all/most events will have time for networking but these events are to be in a professional setting and focused on career advancement)
  • Presentations at events – this role is focused on the planning, implementation, and success of the Career Networks in your geographic area

 

Company Captain

Build your internal network of Kelley colleagues
CONNECTION: YOU ⇔ KELLEY ALUMNI AT YOUR COMPANY

The benefits of this role include:
  • Build you network of Kelley alumni among your colleagues at work
  • Add value to existing recruiting relationship, in an informal way
  • Help establish a non-existent recruiting relationship

This role involves:

  • Building and sustaining an internal Kelley Network

  • Respond to potential inquiries (informational inquiries, requests for introductions, etc.) from alumni, students

Time commitment expected:

Fall semester Industry Connections event: 3-hour on campus student event (share information on your industry and career path, advice on transition from student to professional); network with other alumni

Spring semester webinars: 1-hour webinar (no travel) to answer industry- and career-related questions from students about internships and new jobs

 

International Expert

Share your international perspective with alumni and current students
CONNECTION: YOU ⇔ ALUMNI and STUDENTS with international interests

This role involves:

Connect with MBAs in your community and industry

  • Personal outreach to new grads after graduation (phone call, meet for coffee, etc.)
  • Personal outreach to new grads to invite to events during first year after graduation

Time commitment expected:
